Today we are covering a hot topic - packing for a move. It’s easy to get overwhelmed while figuring out how to get all of your belongings from point A to point B. If you plan ahead, the process doesn’t have to be stressful. We’ve broken down the actions that are required for a successful packing experience. Rather than trying to tackle the entire packing process the night before you are set to move, give yourself a month to crack at these small steps and moving day will be a breeze.
4 Weeks until Moving Day: Book the Team!
Gathering a group of people to help you pack and move will save you SO MUCH time and energy. Picture this: you’ve grouped all of the belongings that you will be taking with you into their respective categories. Optimize the process of putting these items into boxes and then transferring the boxes to moving trucks by hiring a professional service to help. If this is not in your budget - don’t fret! Ask family members, friends, and neighbors.
Be specific about the packing event and make it fun! Ask your friends to mark their calendar for the specific day the following month. Tell them that with the help of (amount) friends it shouldn’t be a problem to pack up the entire house in “X” amount of hours. Provide pizza, snacks, and desserts and blast 80s music (if that’s your jam) to make the experience even more enjoyable ;) Just make sure that you book your team in advance. Once this step is complete - wrapping your head around the move will feel much less daunting.
3 Weeks until Moving Day: Purge!
Donate old clothing items, toys, books, and dishware. Sell unwanted furniture on Facebook Marketplace. Throw away old makeup products. You know the purging drill!
It is much faster to pack up a house free of excess belongings.
2 Weeks until Moving Day: Gather Supplies!
Once your house is free of clutter, it’s time to start working room by room. Start in the room that is most overwhelming to you. This way you get the hard part out of the way right off the bat. Determine how many boxes you will need for each room. Go to the store and get the boxes, packing tape, packing paper, markers and scissors necessary for each room. Place the proper supplies in every room.
1 Week until Moving Day: Pre-Pack!
In the same way you would pack for a vacation, you should set aside the clothes and everyday go-to items that you will need throughout the week and the duration of your move. Place these items in a suitcase. This way you can confidently start placing items in moving boxes without being afraid of packing something that you might still need before the move.
Then - it’s finally time to start packing! Working room by room - remove items from their resting homes and place them in groups on the floor based on how you would like them packed. For smaller items, such as makeup, place the items in a container that will be put into the packing box. Put sticky notes with instructions on bulky items that need to be loaded up on the official moving day. If you get this head start a week before your team arrives, you will be golden! Packing day will be a quick process for you and the team and you should party hard once the work is done.
HAPPY PACKING ;)
