Do you ever find yourself being overwhelmed by your phone’s home screen or take forever to find the one app that you are looking for? Searching through the many apps on your phone can be tiresome and waste your precious time. One good way to battle this is good app organization. So whether you have an android, iphone, or one of the many other phones out there, these tips are sure to help you out!
Get Rid of Unused Apps
The main reason your cell phone seems unorganized is likely due to the amount of apps that you have. Many times we just keep downloading apps without deleting the ones that we no longer use. Take 5-10 minutes out of your day to systematically go through your apps and delete any that you no longer need.
Create Folders
Instead of having individual apps crowded on your screen, organize your apps into different folders. This helps you to find the app that you’re looking for much faster and also frees up space on your screen so that everyone can see your beautiful screensaver.
If you are unsure how to organize your folders, here are my favorite ways:
Verb/Action
Apple gives you the default ones like ‘productivity’ and ‘utility’ but you can also create your own labels that suit your needs and tastes. For example, you can create files for ‘reading’ and ‘travel’
Color
Perhaps one of the most satisfying ways to organize your apps, color coding is beautiful and can be achieved in many different ways. Take a look at the main color on your apps icon and group it with similar colors, from there, you can create files made up of each individual color or make a gradient out of all your apps. This is definitely the most time consuming way to organize but also the most satisfying.
Alphabetical
Another time consuming yet satisfying way to organize your apps is alphabetically. Not only is there something amazing about putting things in alphabetical order, but this is also a great way to find apps. If you know the name of the app that you are looking for, then navigating your app library in alphabetical order is simple. This method is perfect for those who use many apps or just don't want to delete any. There is a quick way to do this on an iPhone:
Go to Settings
Tap "General"
Scroll down and tap "Reset"
Tap "Reset Home Screen Layout"
Apps that came with your Apple phone will be placed into their default locations, and your other apps will be sorted alphabetically.
Frequency of Use
This is my personal favorite way to organize apps. Place the apps that you use most frequently on your home screen and then use folders to organize the rest of your apps. If you are not sure which apps you use most frequently, just
Go to “Settings”
Tap “Screen Time”
Tap “See All Activity”
This will break down your screen time by app and allow you to see which apps are used most frequently.
